The Neuroception Scan for Nervous System Nourishment is one of my favorite guided meditations to offer to clients, and to do myself, as I find it such a calming experience for digesting the fullness of life's dichotomies. It begins with guided relaxation/arrival and then moves into a guided neuroception scan. What is a neuroception scan you ask? It’s an idea I got from Deb Dana in her Foundations of Polyvagal Theory course. In the scan you are guided to notice cues of danger and cues of safety inside of your body, relationships, life experiences, and world at large. This rhythmic movement between perceived danger to safety can be really calming to a lot of people. It’s also like allowing the ever-vigilant part of self to notice the cues of danger it’s been trying to alert you to, while also having the time to take in cues of safety which we often miss due to an ingrained negativity bias.  Many people will find this imaginary sifting process to be relaxing, however, some will find it neutral or even triggering, as that is the unique nature of our nervous systems. If it’s not a good fit for you, I hope you will find another resource that is.
